The National Museum of Agriculture in Prague is not often visited by tourists. You are more likely to meet groups of Czech students than crowds of curious visitors from abroad. However, the lack of tourist traffic is actually an advantage. The museum’s exhibits show the life, traditions and hobbies of the Czech folk. Everything is displayed in an interactive format, with many interesting items, which makes it far from boring.

Photos and Review of the National Museum of Agriculture
When we went to the ticket counter, the staff was surprised at our desire to visit the museum. They even asked if we were looking for the Technical Museum. This reaction shows that foreign tourists do not visit the museum often. But I love this kind of curious places.
The museum is greeted with a warm rural welcome, with sheep grazing near the entrance and roosters crowing.
There are several reasons why we decided to visit this museum:
- Less Tourist Traffic: We wanted to experience something beyond the typical tourist attractions.
- Affordable Admission: Free entry for children and cheap tickets for adults.
- Educational Value: I wanted to provide my children with a deeper understanding of the country. The museum excellently reflects Czech life from ancient times through the socialist era to the present.
- Convenient Location: The museum is located right across from the popular National Technical Museum and Letná Gardens, making it easy to visit all in one trip.
The museum spans five floors, including basement and rooftop areas. The lowest floor features an exhibition of agricultural transport – tractors, seeders, combines, and carts, including authentic specimens from the last century.
One of the key reasons this museum is a great place for kids and families is its engaging and educational exhibits. The museum’s extensive collection covers various aspects of agriculture, including farming techniques, machinery, food production, and animal husbandry.
The interactive displays and hands-on exhibits allow children to learn about the journey of food from farm to table in an enjoyable and memorable way. For instance, the “Gastronomy” exhibit lets visitors explore the history of Czech cuisine and understand the processes behind food production, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the food they eat.
On the next floor you can learn about fishing, which is an important part of Czech cuisine. This room displays historic fishing nets and traps, as well as traditional Czech recipes for cooking carp.
Children particularly enjoy the outdoor sections of the museum, such as the rooftop garden. This green space provides a unique opportunity to learn about urban farming and sustainability.
Kids can see various plants, herbs, and vegetables growing, and sometimes even participate in gardening activities. This hands-on experience fosters a connection with nature and an understanding of where food comes from, which is both fun and educational.
There are stunning panoramic views of Prague from the roof, making it an excellent observation point.
For families, the museum offers numerous activities that encourage spending quality time together. Workshops and interactive sessions are regularly held, where parents and children can learn new skills such as baking bread, making butter, or understanding of how an old gas station works.
The scientific hall allows visitors to browse interactive electronic books and participate in various experiments, emphasizing environmental care.
Additionally, the museum’s collection of historical agricultural machinery is a hit with both kids and adults. The impressive array of tractors, plows, and harvesters from different eras captivates visitors and provides insight into the technological advancements in agriculture over the years.
We also found a play shop in the museum where my kids enjoyed filling baskets with food and buying it at the counter, receiving real printed receipts with the museum logo on them.
Conveniently located and easily accessible by public transportation, the National Museum of Agriculture is an ideal destination for families exploring Prague. Its blend of interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, and educational displays make it a must-visit for families seeking an enjoyable and informative experience. With something to engage every family member, the museum ensures a delightful and enriching day out for all.
The Museum of Agriculture on the Map of Prague
I’ve marked various museums, monuments, historical sites, and other notable places in Prague on this map. The National Museum of Agriculture is marked with a blue marker depicting a tractor in the north of Prague.
How to Get to the Museum
You can walk to the museum from Letná Gardens, starting from the metronome. Upon exiting the park, you’ll see two similar museum buildings (agriculture and technical museums). The one with tractors at the entrance is your destination.
Alternatively, take trams No. 1, 2, 8, 12, 25, 26, 91, or 96 to the Letenské náměstí stop. It’s a short 5 minute walk from there to the museum.
